Tod Pardon: ‘Hotsie’ Brooch/Sculpture, 1996

Tod Pardon’s ‘Hotsie’, made in 1996, is a tour-de-force of this artist’s vision. The 1-3/4″ x 6″ x 1/2″ brooch and sculpture has married metals copper and sterling tapered ‘legs’ inlaid, the bird-like figure at top inlaid with pigmented resin, rosewood, bone and hishi shell. The separate wood stand measures 2-1/2″ x 4″ x 2-1/2″, meant to display the sculpture when not being worn as a brooch.
